Pr\u00e9sentation du collectif<\/em><\/strong> (English version below)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le Collectif pluridisciplinaire de recherche de provenances (CPRProvenances) a \u00e9t\u00e9 fond\u00e9 en 2023 \u00e0 l\u2019initiative d\u2019un groupe de chercheurs de provenances, issus de la m\u00eame formation acad\u00e9mique. Historiens, conservateurs, arch\u00e9ologues ou juristes de formation, leurs sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9s font la richesse de ce collectif qui compte des chercheurs sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9s sur diff\u00e9rentes p\u00e9riodes (Seconde Guerre mondiale, p\u00e9riode coloniale, conflits contemporains) et diff\u00e9rentes r\u00e9gions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le Collectif pluridisciplinaire de recherche de provenances a pour but de sensibiliser aux enjeux de tra\u00e7abilit\u00e9 des biens culturels. Une provenance claire et \u00e9tablie permet une meilleure connaissance des collections mus\u00e9ales, participe du bon fonctionnement du march\u00e9 de l\u2019art et est indispensable pour lutter efficacement contre le trafic de biens culturels. La cr\u00e9ation du CPRProvenances a \u00e9galement pour ambition de faciliter l\u2019identification de chercheurs de provenance comp\u00e9tents par les professionnels du march\u00e9 de l\u2019art et les mus\u00e9es, qui auraient besoin de leur intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les membres fondateurs du CPRProvenances sont laur\u00e9ats du DU Recherche de provenance des \u0153uvres de l\u2019universit\u00e9 Paris Nanterre, et issus de sa premi\u00e8re promotion : la promotion Rose Valland. Rose Valland \u00e9tait attach\u00e9e de conservation au Jeu de Paume pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 elle, nombre d\u2019\u0153uvres et objets spoli\u00e9s par les Nazis ont pu \u00eatre restitu\u00e9s apr\u00e8s guerre. Son d\u00e9vouement est une v\u00e9ritable source d\u2019inspiration pour tous les chercheurs, quelles que soient leurs sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Par ce blog, le collectif entend proposer des articles sur les recherches men\u00e9es par ses membres, sur l\u2019actualit\u00e9 de la recherche de provenance, mais \u00e9galement de rassembler les outils et ressources afin d\u2019entamer des recherches. Le collectif esp\u00e8re f\u00e9d\u00e9rer autour de cet espace les chercheurs de provenance actifs en France et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger, afin d\u2019animer un r\u00e9seau et cr\u00e9er un lieu d\u2019\u00e9change. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pr\u00e9sentation <\/strong><\/em>de la formation<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le DU \u201cRecherche de provenances des \u0153uvres : circulations, spoliations, trafics illicites et restitutions\u201d a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 en 2022 au sein de l\u2019universit\u00e9 Paris Nanterre. Premi\u00e8re formation de la sorte en France, il est un jalon dans la reconnaissance de la recherche de provenance comme \u00e9tant une v\u00e9ritable discipline. Construit autour de la question de la circulation illicite ou ill\u00e9gitime des biens culturels, le DU propose une formation en histoire, histoire de l\u2019art et droit : m\u00e9thodologie de la recherche, analyse mat\u00e9rielle des biens culturels, histoire des collections, droit du patrimoine autour du statut, de la circulation, protection des biens culturels\u2026  S\u2019adressant autant \u00e0 de jeunes dipl\u00f4m\u00e9s qu\u2019\u00e0 des professionnels, la promotion comprend une vingtaine d\u2019\u00e9tudiants chaque ann\u00e9e. Bien que principalement implant\u00e9e en France par son rattachement \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 Paris Nanterre, cette formation se veut internationale. La premi\u00e8re formation a ainsi \u00e9t\u00e9 constitu\u00e9e par des \u00e9tudiants fran\u00e7ais, belges, suisses, camerounais, comoriens, gabonais et b\u00e9ninois. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the collective<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Multidisciplinary Provenance Research Collective (CPRProvenances) was founded in 2023 by a group of provenance researchers with a shared academic background. As historians, curators, archaeologists and lawyers coming from various sectors and specialized in a wide range of regions and periods (Second World War, colonial collections, contemporary conflicts\u2026), they bring diverse perspectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal of this multidisciplinary group is to raise awareness of the importance of traceability of cultural heritage. A clear and documented provenance allows a better knowledge of museum collections, contributes to the proper functioning of the art market, and is essential in the fight against the illicit trafficking of cultural property. The creation of the CPRProvenances also aims to help professionals from the art market and from museums with the identification of qualified provenance researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The founding members of the CPRProvenances are the first generation of graduates of the Master degree in provenance research from the University of Paris Nanterre. The class of 2022 named themselves after Rose Valland, honouring the art historian who was conservation associate at the Jeu de Paume<\/em> during the German Occupation of France. Thanks to her efforts, many objects and works of art that had been looted by the Nazis could be traced and returned after the war. Her dedication continues to be a source of inspiration for provenance researchers whatever their field of expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this blog, the collective intends to offer articles on the research carried out by its members and on recent developments in provenance research. It also gathers useful research tools and resources. The collective hopes to unite provenance researchers active in France and abroad, and to stimulate networking and a dynamic flow of information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Master programme at Nanterre <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The interdisciplinary university degree \u201cRecherche de provenances des \u0153uvres : circulations, spoliations, trafics illicites et restitutions<\/em>\u201d was created in 2021-2022 at the University of Paris Nanterre. As the first academic programme of its kind in France, it is a milestone in the recognition of provenance research as a scholarly discipline. The curriculum is built around the question of the illegal or illicit circulation of cultural property and offers training in history, art history and law: research methodology, material analysis of movable heritage, history of collections, heritage law on the status and protection of cultural property… Aimed at both recent graduates and professionals, this Master programme has around twenty graduates each year. Both the speakers and the students are international even though the programme is mainly established in France through its connection to the University of Paris Nanterre. During its first year, students from France, Belgium, Switzerland, Benin, Cameroon, Gabon, and the Comoro Islands had enrolled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
