DESCRIPTION:The phenomenon of illegal trafficking in cultural heritage has grown in the Arab region and the Middle East over the last decade\, mainly due to civil unrest\, armed conflicts\, and natural disasters in the region. Special awareness\, attention\, and global coordination is paramount to combatting artifact smuggling and transit in the region and beyond. \nFollowing the successful 2022 Cultural Heritage Workshop\, Qatar National Library (QNL)\, which also hosts an IFLA Preservation and Conservation Centre\, has teamed up with its partners (in the framework of Himaya project) to host this year’s Cultural Heritage Workshop\, featuring top international multidisciplinary experts to mitigate and combat this phenomenon. \nThe conference includes a pre-workshop with regional\, local\, and international experts\, as well as an open worship with top experts on cultural property\, provenance\, restitution\, and repatriation\, with on the final day special training for customs officials from Qatar and the region. \nThe workshop offers a valuable opportunity to take stock\, and look ahead to practical steps that can be taken to intensify work to put an end to theft and trafficking\, both in the region and the world\, and so help deliver on the cultural rights of all.

September 2023 richtet die „AG Italien“ des Arbeitskreises Provenienzforschung e.V. in Kooperation mit mehreren deutsch-italienischen Forschungseinrichtungen das erste Vernetzungstreffen im Deutschen Studienzentrum in Venedig aus. Zu den fördernden und kooperierenden Institutionen gehören der Arbeitskreis Provenienzforschung e.V.\, das Deutsche Zentrum Kulturgutverluste sowie das Deutsche Historische Institut in Rom. Das Auftakttreffen der Mitglieder der internationalen Arbeitsgemeinschaft wird aus einem Workshop mit extern geladenen Gästen aus Universitäten\, Archiven\, Bibliotheken und Museen sowie einem öffentlichen Abendvortrag von Dr. Bianca Gaudenzi (DHI Rom) und Prof. Dr. Christian Fuhrmeister (ZI München) bestehen.\nDer Abendvortrag wird online via Zoom übertragen: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/83632988014. \nIm Rahmen des ersten Vernetzungstreffens der „AG Italien“ sollen aktuelle Forschungsfragen zu Provenienzen im italienischen Kontext diskutiert sowie Ideen und Visionen rund um das Thema erarbeitet werden. Hauptanliegen ist es\, das italienische (Fach-)Publikum für den noch ungenügend erforschten Themenbereich der Verlagerung von Kulturgütern während des Faschismus und der Kolonialzeit zu sensibilisieren. Darüber hinaus ist es der AG ein besonderes Anliegen\, auch die breite Öffentlichkeit auf dieses Forschungsdesiderat und die Notwendigkeit einer Aufarbeitung der historischen Gegebenheiten aufmerksam zu machen.
